On every page you will find a header on a green bar at the top which includes a search box and the facility to increase or decrease the font size for readability.
Under the header on every page you will find the same top menu. Where the menu item includes a little arrow you can hover with the mouse pointer or tap and hold on a touch screen to open a sub-menu.
Under the top menu is this area, the main page content area.
On the right hand side (if you are on a full size screen, below the article text if you are using a small screen handheld device like a phone or tablet) you will find other menus and information that varies depending on the page you are on. This area may contain links to related articles, related files for download, or more general information like a display of 'tags' assigned to articles.
There are two basic types of material available on this site:
- Articles written specially for the site, or in some cases re-published from elsewhere.
Articles are organised into categories, and also may have tags associated with them to aid searching and viewing related material.
Articles appear in this main area on the page. Some pages may display a list of articles with links, or just the introductory text to one or more articles with a "Read more" link. - Archive materials for download.
Documents have generally been scanned and are presented in PDF format. Most PDFs will have been run though Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software, but the quality of the originals mean the the results can be erratic. Copy and paste text with caution. The document library uses a separate set of categories and tags to the main articles - this is a technical weakness that we would like to correct.
Images are generally in JPG format at medium resolution. These should be adequate for most print and online use - if you need access to a high resolution version of an image please contact us - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
The main page content area may display the text of a single article, or the introductory text to several articles with "Read more" links to the full article, or a list of articles linked to the individual articles.
In the case of lists or several articles on the page you may find a link to further pages of the list at the bottom. When viewing a full article you will find a list of tags assigned to the article under the text - clicking on a tag will take you to a list of all articles with the same tag. You may also find at the bottom of an article buttons to the previous and/or next article in the category.
In the document library and image galleries the main page content area is used to display details of documents or thumbnails of images.
