The Green Gathering movement provided a key way for diverse activists from different parts of the broad 'ecology-green' movement to meet together.

The precursor of the green gatherings was organised under the Ecology Party in 1980 as a Summer Gathering for Eco members. There was no Glastonbury music festival this year and Michael Eavis allowed use of the site at Worthy Farm in August. As the leaflet makes clear it was a fairly loosely organised affair.

The second gathering was still called "Ecology Party Summer Gathering" but was trying to broaden its appeal to "the ecology movement as a whole". Glastonbury music festival was held in June'81 after taking a year off in 1980 and was linked with CND. The summer gathering was held a month later also at Worthy Farm courtesy of Michael Eavis.

This sheet appears to come from an edition of GreenLine in 1982 (the Glasgow Hillhead by-election mentioned by Cadogan was on 25th March). Both articles are relevant to the debate between political "vanguardist" and movement building "consensus" approaches to development of green-ism.

Poster which doubles as flyer for Gathering event on 6th/7th August in Northern Ireland. Aug 6th Hiroshima Day billed as a 24hr non-violent blockade of RAF Bishopscourt near Downpatrick. 7th Aug billed as a green gathering on Ecology Politics. Hand-drawn image featuring a "Cullybackey CND" banner.

Poster/flyer for Stop Torness (nuclear power station near Dunbar, Scotland) event on May Bank Holiday 1983. Poster features image of crowd holding hands around a reactor with a tree sprouting from its cracked shell. Leaflet draws connection between nuke power and weapons. A "walk for life" from Faslane to Greenham Common arrives at Torness on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Glastonbury Gathering moved from Worthy Farm to nearby Lamberts Hill Farm. In 1982 the new Local Government Act had required a licence for "public entertainments" with the local authority able to impose conditions.
